Robert Detlefsen is Vice President of Research at the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC), an Indianapolis-based national trade association that represents more than 1,400 property-casualty insurance companies. In this role, Detlefsen conducts public policy research and analysis, with a focus on the mutual industry.
Detlefsen’s analyses and commentaries have appeared in scholarly journals, specialized insurance publications, and a variety of newspapers and magazines. He is the author of "Dual Insurance Chartering: Potential Consequences" in The Future of Insurance Regulation (Brookings Press, 2009) and author of Civil Rights Under Reagan (ICS Press, 1991). Detlefsen represents NAMIC on the advisory board of the Insurance Research Council and serves on the board of directors of the Alabama Center for Insurance Information and Research. He is also on the editorial board of the Journal of Insurance Regulation, and has testified on numerous occasions before legislative and regulatory bodies.
Detlefsen holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.A. in political science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has served on the faculties of several colleges and universities, teaching courses in American government, constitutional law, and political theory.
