Mutual Director Certification (MDC) Program - Curriculum


MDC CURRICULUM

The Mutual Director Certification is available exclusively to NAMIC members.

Prior to taking the certification exam, applicants must attend NAMIC’s Directors’ Bootcamp 2.0 in-person or virtual conference. At this event, board members gain the tools and the knowledge they need to effectively govern within the mutual insurance industry. All MDC exam content is covered within the event’s agenda, including the following MDC core curriculum topics:

  • CEO Succession Planning
  • Corporate Governance and Role of the Board
  • Enterprise Risk Management
  • Regulatory Framework
  • The Board’s Role in Strategic Planning
  • Understanding Company Financials and Key Metrics

EVENT ATTENDANCE EXCEPTIONS

Event attendance exceptions are available for individuals who have:

  • attended Directors’ Bootcamp 2.0 in the past five years; or
  • held a senior-level position at a mutual insurance company for at least five years (within the last ten years).

EXAM ELIGIBILITY

Once an individual attends Directors’ Bootcamp 2.0 and becomes eligible to take the exam, he/she will have six (6) months to schedule and prepare for the exam.
