Sen. Mike McGuire, who is currently the Senate Majority Leader and has been selected by his colleagues to be the next Senate President, has introduced SB 946 regarding community hardening. The bill is merely a “spot bill” intended to be a vehicle for likely legislation later this session on community wildfire home hardening.
Since the senator has introduced prior legislation of concern to homeowners’ insurers in past sessions, NAMIC will work with our trade partners to gather intel on the likely scope of the proposed legislation, as the insurance lobby continues to work with the California Department of Insurance on regulatory reform intended to address provisions in current laws, regulations, and agency practices that have hindered insurers in their ability to match rate to risk and address insurance consumer needs.
