NAMIC weighed-in on several bills being heard in the Rhode Island House Corporations Committee during the week of Feb. 12. NAMIC:

  • Supported legislation, H7287, that would increase the amount requiring that an appraisal be performed by a licensed appraiser when a vehicle sustains damage from $2,500 to an amount in excess of $5,000;
  • Opposed bill H7016 and opposed bill H7288 that would impose restrictions on using certain factors in auto insurance underwriting; and
  • Opposed bill H7264, legislation prescribing the use of aftermarket auto parts.

NAMIC also urged the Innovation, Internet & Technology Committee to remove property/casualty insurers from a comprehensive bill, H7521, to regulate artificial intelligence.
