Ann Carlson, the acting administrator for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, recently resigned as a result of statutory limitations on how long officials can remain in a temporary role. President Biden withdrew her nomination to serve permanently in the position in May 2023. No replacement nominee has been forthcoming.
Sophie Shulman, NHTSA’s deputy administrator, will serve as acting administrator. She previously was deputy chief of staff for policy at the Department of Transportation and served at the Energy Department, Office of Management and Budget, and White House Domestic Policy Council.
NAMIC will meet Feb. 7 with Shulman.
