HB 1160, a third-party litigation funding bill, passed out of the Indiana House Feb. 5 and was assigned to Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill is looking to address commercial cases in third-party litigation funding and defines foreign interests and disclosure requirements. Rep. Matt Lehman will seek to pass the bill in the Senate and potentially bring the language to NCOIL to create a national model. Previously, he passed a TPLF bill based on consumer lending.
Both the legislation and model act efforts are supported by NAMIC and the industry.
The House on Feb. 5 gaveled out for a halftime break, with the Senate following suit the next day.
