WASHINGTON (Sept. 19, 2023) – The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies announced today that Florida state Rep. Tommy Gregory has been named the association’s State Legislator of the Year. NAMIC will host an event recognizing the representative’s accomplishments on Nov. 30 in conjunction with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners meeting in Orlando.
Gregory was tapped as the top state legislator for 2023 for his leadership in sponsoring several bills addressing insurance public policy. These bills included Florida’s history making tort reform package and several industry-driven omnibus packages. He was also influential during the 2022 special sessions on eliminating attorney fee recovery statutes and assignment of benefits in property insurance claims. Gregory is the chair of the House Judiciary Committee, which oversees some of the most critical issues facing NAMIC’s membership in the Legislature.
Gregory is currently serving his third term in the Florida House of Representatives representing the people of the 72nd District, which covers the majority of Manatee County. He is also a commercial litigation attorney, small-business owner, and previously served in the United States Air Force for 20 years.
“Representative Gregory has shown strong leadership on issues affecting insurance public policy throughout his public service career,” said Neil Alldredge, NAMIC’s president and CEO. “He is most deserving of this recognition as his tireless work on so many important pieces of legislation strengthens the insurance market in Florida to the benefit of the insurance companies and policyholders. We are proud to present this award for his free-market ideals that support a strong economy.”
Each year, NAMIC has awarded the State Legislator of the Year to one or more deserving state lawmakers for their support of free-market principles and strong positions to improve the insurance market in their states.
