SAN DIEGO (Sept. 29, 2025) – The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies today presented its esteemed Chair Award to Art Meadows, recognizing his decades of leadership, innovation, and service that have left a lasting mark on the mutual property/casualty insurance industry.
“We’re thrilled to present this award to Art,” said Neil Alldredge, president and CEO of NAMIC. “His relentless dedication to excellence, combined with his stellar leadership, has built a legacy that continues to shape both our industry and this association.”
Meadows began his career in the mutual insurance industry in 1984 and today serves as president and CEO of Carolina Farmers Mutual, while also lending his expertise as a board member for five other mutual companies. Over his 17 years as CEO of Panhandle Farmers Mutual, Meadows spearheaded the creation of the innovative BriteCore Platform, which reduced operating expenses by 35 percent and boosted policyholder surplus by 650 percent in just five years. That policy admin system, now adopted by over 100 mutual insurers across the United States, continues to strengthen companies nationwide by streamlining operations and driving growth.
Beyond his business accomplishments, Meadows has been a steadfast supporter of NAMIC, serving on the association’s board of directors from 2009–2012 and actively participating in countless educational programs and networking events.
“Art has always been one of the strongest champions for mutuals across the country,” Alldredge added. “His influence made every board and organization he touched better. Those who’ve worked alongside him know his success came not only from his sharp vision and attention to detail, but also from his deep values and genuine kindness.”
NAMIC also recognized four other individuals during its annual convention for their service to the association and the industry through the NAMIC Service Award:
- Randa Rawlins, retired president & CEO, Shelter Insurance Companies
- Gary Thompson, retired president & CEO, Columbia Insurance
- Ellen Melchionni, immediate past president, New York Insurance Association
- Tim Koppenhaver, executive vice president, Loudoun Mutual Insurance Company
