Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies, D-N.Y., announced a congressional task force that will focus on the challenges of artificial intelligence technology and its impact on a wide range of issues.
A senior staffer in Johnson’s office shared that “to win the future for America’s economy and workers, Congress must develop solutions ready for the rapid technological shift already underway with the emergence of artificial intelligence.”
This bipartisan, committee-driven taskforce under the leadership of Johnson and Jeffries will build consensus toward taking the first steps for AI policy. The task force will be evenly split politically, with 12 members from each side of the aisle pulled from the various committees who have expertise in this area. NAMIC anticipates that some committees, such as Energy and Commerce, will see more of their members featured heavily given the subject matter.
