SB 2695, Relating to Privacy, has been introduced and assigned to the Senate Consumer Protection Committee for review. No public hearing has been scheduled yet.
The legislation, which was drafted by the 2019 Legislative Twenty-First Century Privacy Law Taskforce, updates the definition of “personal information” in chapter 487 N, Hawaii Revised Statutes, to include various personal identifiers and data elements found in other more comprehensive privacy protection laws. The bill specifically states that it applies to “any licensee that is subject to the Insurance Data Security Law, article 3B, chapter 431.”
NAMIC’s data privacy subject matter experts are reviewing the bill for conformity with national models. Please provide any feedback that you have on proposed “personal information” definition to me.
