Celebrating Innovation


NAMIC revealed the winners of the eighth annual Award in Innovation during the 2021 Management Conference in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Twenty-six submissions were received and considered by the Award in Innovation Selection Committee.

Congratulations to the overall winner, the two best-in-category winners, and the rest of the participating companies. Innovation is always something to be celebrated.


The graying of the insurance industry and the lack of up-and-coming talent were two emerging issues Harford Mutual recognized nearly a decade ago. So, in 2013, the company began developing and executing its Pipeline and Perpetuation initiative with goals of cultivating an insurance talent pipeline and developing employee leadership skill to promote company growth and ensure leadership perpetuation. Since then, Harford Mutual has implemented as part of this initiative include an internship program, enhanced employee benefits, a young professionals training program, a leadership group, and a career-pathing project. Harford Mutual has received several awards for its efforts. Thirteen interns have been hired as full-time employees and nine HMIG employees have moved to higher-level positions after participating in the leadership group.

    • PURE Insurance

PURE leveraged a massive collection of risk data and created Home Spotlight, which allows access to important risk information on homes for sale including historical details on construction permits, prior insurance claims, property-specific risks like flood and wildfire, the history of localized hail events and more. Members can quickly run a report on any residential property with an MLS listing directly from the PURE Insurance app or the PURE Member Portal and get results almost instantly

    • Mutual of Enumclaw Insurance Company

Mutual of Enumclaw recently implemented a new policy administration system called Nucleus. MOE developed the system in house, allowing for full customization. The company plans to make Nucleus available to other companies in an open-source community, which will make it the first truly open-source system in the insurance industry.
