NAMIC State Legislator of the Year Award
A Texas Republican and a Wisconsin Democrat were named the recipients of the 2010 NAMIC State Legislator of the Year Award. The awards were announced by NAMIC President/CEO Chuck Chamness during NAMIC’s annual convention held Sept. 19-22 in San Diego.
Texas State Sen. Glenn Hegar serves as chairman of the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission, where he has been a strong advocate for reducing overly burdensome government regulations and excessive spending while continuing to support file/use rating system and clear guidelines for approval or disapproval of rates. Hegar will continue to play a critical role in promoting and protecting competitive insurance markets during next year’s legislative cycle.
Wisconsin State Senator Lena Taylor chairs the Wisconsin Senate Committee on Judiciary, Corrections, Insurance, Campaign Finance Reform, and Housing, where she has helped consumers and insurers by opposing expensive legislation that would have increased costs for consumers.
“Senators Hegar and Taylor are outstanding legislators committed to efficient, competitive, and fair insurance markets,” said Neil Alldredge, NAMIC’s senior vice president of State & Policy Affairs. “These elected officials have shown wisdom, leadership, and strength of character to do what is right for the citizens of their states. It has been nothing less than an honor to work with these two outstanding legislators.”
