DALLAS (Sept. 21, 2022) – The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies introduced its 2022-2023 board chair, Jake Black, president and CEO of CFM Insurance, Inc., today during the association’s 127th Annual Convention.
Black, who has been CFM Insurance’s chief executive since 2014, has a strong background in the mutual insurance industry. He followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, who co-owned an insurance brokerage and led a mutual company.
He spoke to the 127th Annual Convention audience about his mutual roots, the unwavering purpose of the mutual industry, and the value of mutuals working together.
“Doing this allows us to fulfill the promises we’ve made to our policyholders,” he said. “At the end of the day, every single one of our companies’ identities lie among the policyholders that make up our great companies. We can’t forget that, and we must keep that identity and purpose at the forefront.”
Black also sees evolution as a vital piece of the industry’s continued success and, therefore, has never been one to shy away from an innovative idea. He challenged the convention audience to embrace evolution, to get more involved with the association, and to invite the next generation of leaders to the association’s table.
“I guarantee they will push the envelope, challenge normal, and bring great ideas,” Black said. “The success of this association and our companies lies with this future legacy and their courage to challenge the status quo.”
Black has actively served NAMIC as a volunteer leader for nearly a decade. In addition to his board of directors’ commitments, Black has been a member of the Convention Planning Committee, the Farm Mutual Conference Board, the FMC Benchmarking Working Group, and the NAMIC Mutual Insurance Foundation Board. He is also a past chair of the NAMIC PAC Board of Trustees.
During the next 12 months, Black will serve as a leading spokesperson for NAMIC in meetings with legislators, regulators, and other industry stakeholders. He will also meet with fellow mutual insurance industry professionals and NAMIC members during several state association meetings and conventions.
