The NAMIC team hosted its PAC Board of Trustees in Washington Feb. 6-7 for an annual planning meeting. The PAC Board is made up of member company volunteers, and the purpose of the first quarter meeting was to iron out fundraising goals for NAMIC PAC, strategize, and authorize spending plans for federal and state political engagement throughout the year.
The group was joined on Feb. 6 by House Financial Services Committee members Reps. Zach Nunn, R-Iowa., and Erin Houchin, R-Ind. The two freshman members are well-versed and receptive to industry issues such as support for state-based insurance regulation and measures to address risings costs associated with auto ownership. NAMIC PAC board members led an insightful conversation pertaining to the New Era of Risk and market dynamics across the country that are contributing to stress points for insurers and consumers.
The following day, Rep. Juan Vargas, D-Calif., a House Financial Services Committee member, and Ways and Means Committee member Rep. Brad Schnieder, D-Ill., visited with the group to talk about developments on Capitol Hill concerning insurance. Both lawmakers have experience working in the insurance industry.
The PAC Board of Trustees approved budget proposals to help guide advocacy efforts this year. NAMIC PAC is on track for another successful year in 2024, which is a pivotal presidential election year. Learn more about NAMIC PAC here.
