Enthusiasm About Being Back In Person – NAMIC Claims Conference
The Claims Conference was one of only two NAMIC events held in person in 2020 and the first in-person event for NAMIC in 2021. There is a lot of anticipation around getting back together. Sommer Joslin, senior claims automation and process manager for Society Insurance and the chair of the Claims Conference Committee, is sharing some of her enthusiasm for the upcoming event.
Q: What kind of excitement is there from the committee about being back in person?
A: When we started our planning a year ago, it was unknown what the conference would
actually look like and what struggles we would have finding speakers for the content we were hoping to provide. Once the decision was made to move the date and offer a hybrid attendance option, the committee jumped in full force to round out the agenda with topics that were not only relevant to the industry but also in regard to the new normal.
Q: What are you most looking forward to at Claims Conference?
A: Definitely the interaction. I have been attending the NAMIC Claims Conference long before I sat on the planning committee. I have developed a lot of relationships with my peers and vendors in our industry, and I am looking forward to the opportunity to get together once again.
Q: Which session do you not want to miss?
A: This question should be more about which time slots I’m most torn about what session to attend. There are so many good ones to look forward to. I am really excited about the optional experiential learning activity of the live burn cell demonstration. In my more than 20 years of experience in the industry, this is something I have not been able to take part in yet.
Q: What advice would you share with someone who is attending Claims Conference for the first time?
A: Get out there and get to know other attendees and vendors. There is such a wide network that attends that you never know when you will develop that next connection. The peer-to-peer roundtable discussions are always great ways to expand your network and hear what others in the industry are working on.
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to share with fellow NAMIC members regarding the 2021 Claims Conference?
A: While the timing of the conference and the world around us might be a little different, the goal of providing an entertaining, educational, and inspiring conference has stayed the same. Regardless of if you are attending in person or virtually, there is something there for everyone.
