Located on Vancouver’s waterfront with a dramatic mountain backdrop, the Vancouver Convention Centre offers a beautiful setting and convenient access to all the major visitor amenities in the downtown core. All association meetings, food functions and the Marketplace for Mutuals will be held at the convention center, making it the central hub for all activities.

Multiple hotel options are offered to convention attendees in order to provide a wide variety of service levels and costs. Eight hotels will be a part of the convention block, all located within a short walk of the convention center. Once you register for the convention, you will receive a link to make room reservations at the special NAMIC group rate in your confirmation email. Please keep in mind that all room rates are shown in Canadian currency, and the actual U.S. equivalent will be different depending on the exchange rate at the time of payment.
Occasionally, groups claiming to be a “Convention Housing Bureau” (or a similar name) have contacted registered and/or regular attendees of the NAMIC Annual Convention claiming the ability to secure room reservations at the official NAMIC hotel in September at a discounted rate. Please be aware that these companies are not authorized to represent NAMIC, and cannot secure rooms within the group room block. Unfortunately, this problem is becoming more prevalent among convention groups. If you are considering alternative housing arrangements for the Annual Convention, please keep in mind that there are benefits to booking your reservation through NAMIC including discounted rates, protected reservations, and the ability for NAMIC staff to assist you with a reservation should you experience a problem. Passport and Visa Requirements
Everyone entering Canada from another country (including the U.S.) will need to have a passport or visa prior to arriving at the border or coming through an airport. Passport processing times can vary depending on the time of year, but it is recommended to allow at least six weeks. Also please note the possibility of background checks when crossing the border (for infractions including DUI convictions/pleas) that could result in being denied entry into Canada. NEW Requirement for Attendees who are not U.S. citizens:
Canada has implemented a program (similar to the U.S. ESTA program) called eTA, which will require individual’s needing VISAs to also complete an online travel authorization. This new program was implemented in Canada starting in March 2016. Please click here for more information. The eTA is a new entry requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to Canada by air. The authorization is electronically linked to your passport and is valid
for five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first.
While this process can also be done at the airport, it is suggested that doing it prior to arriving is the best course of action.
Please keep in mind that all room rates are shown in Canadian currency, and the actual U.S. equivalent will be different depending on the exchange rate at the time of the convention. While the U.S. dollar is generally accepted by vendors in Canada, it may be beneficial to have some Canadian currency. Money can be exchanged at the airport or prior to arrival. The use of a credit card is also a good option to avoid having to deal with exchanging large amounts of cash; foreign transaction fees may apply when using credit cards.
Attendees can utilize ICE Currency Services, including a convenient “Click and Collect” online foreign currency reservation service and pick up and pay before you fly. Other services include: 24-hour currency exchange, travel cheques, travel insurance, calling cards, fax and photocopy services at their eight airport locations. Check with your cellular phone service provider for the general rules, rates and restrictions for cellular service in Canada. Higher rates may apply, especially when using data or making calls to the U.S. Most cellular carriers offer some type of International service options that could be beneficial.

Vancouver International Airport (YVR)
Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the second largest airport on North America’s west coast, with over 35 commercial airlines servicing it. Traveling from the airport to downtown Vancouver is possible by taking a taxi, limo or the Canada Line rapid transit system, and usually takes less than 30 minutes.
Vancouver taxi service is available from Level 2 of the Domestic and International Arrivals Area. Approximate taxi fare from Vancouver International Airport to the Vancouver Convention Center is $35 CAN.
