Louisiana: LDI Issues Emergency Rule for Insurers
We learned Friday evening that Commissioner Jim Donelon invoked the provisions of Emergency Rule 26 pertaining to the suspension of certain statutes and regulations regarding cancellations, non-renewals, reinstatements, premium payments, claim filings, and other insurance matters. Insurers should note the effective date of the emergency rules was made retroactive to Sunday, Aug. 26. The provisions of this declaration extend until Sept. 25, 2012 unless terminated sooner.
Insurers doing business in Louisiana should review the commissioner's declaration and Emergency Rule 26. Note we have not heard of any additional rules beyond the provisions of Emergency Rule 26.
We will continue to stay in contact with the LDI, member companies, and our trade association partners to advise member companies of further declarations from the state and local government. Please contact me if you have questions or concerns.
