Feedback Needed for Development of Electronic Verification of Auto Liability Insurance System in Alabama
The insurance industry has been asked again to provide input on creating a better system for tracking mandatory auto liability coverage in Alabama.
NAMIC Southeast state affairs manager Liz Reynolds attended a meeting last Thursday in Montgomery that was organized by Revenue Commissioner Tim Russell and Sen. Arthur Orr. The Department of Revenue is charged with the responsibility of verifying auto liability insurance. Many industry representatives were there, along with Insurance Commissioner Jim Ridling, Col. Chris Murphy of the Department of Public Safety, and employees from Revenue, DOI, and DPS.
Assistant Insurance Commissioner Ragan Ingram gave industry representatives a “homework assignment” before the meeting concluded. He asked that we provide information about three states that have effective systems so that the larger group can take a closer look at those. He also requested that we provide a list of pros and cons about the three states we believe are best.vMany of you are already aware of this effort and this request, so you are already working on determining the appropriate response from your company.
