NAMIC Political Affairs Manager

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) has an opening for a Political Affairs Manager in its Washington D.C. office. NAMIC is the largest property/casualty insurance company trade association, with nearly 1,400 member companies serving more than 170 million auto, home, and business policyholders.

The Political Affairs Manager will work with NAMIC’s Political Affairs Director on all aspects of the organization’s political strategy to include the political action committee (NAMIC PAC), NAMIC’s Congressional Contact Program, federal and state grassroots programs and election monitoring, to increase political involvement amongst the association’s membership.

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the effective administration of NAMIC PAC including process development and adherence, disbursements, PAC political and corporate budget management and record-keeping.

  • Manage the NAMIC PAC small donor political giving program.

  • Perform hosting responsibilities for NAMIC PAC fundraisers in the Government Affairs Office.

  • Assist NAMIC Political Affairs Director with planning meetings and events for the PAC, such as fundraisers, political receptions, and educational events.

  • Work with Public Affairs to enhance a social media strategy to encourage political involvement.

  • Responsible for staffing PAC activities at NAMIC meetings including its annual Convention.

  • Assist with grassroots action alert preparation.

  • Research election information as needed regarding congressional races.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with other industry members for the purposes of education and building relationships as a source of PAC information.

  • Assist with administrative support for NAMIC’s fly-in program, the Congressional Contact Program (CCP).

  • Write news stories promoting advocacy programs and events.

Qualifications of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • 3+ years of extensive experience in association PACs, government relations, political fundraising, or political campaigns.

  • In-depth understanding of political and legislative processes. Working knowledge of local, state and federal requirements for political activity disclosure and reporting, to include FEC laws and filing requirements.

  • Experience with PAC and grassroots software programs.

FEDERAL AFFAIRS DIRECTOR

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) currently has an opening for a Federal Affairs Director in its Washington D.C. office. NAMIC is the largest property/casualty insurance company trade association, with nearly 1,400 member companies serving more than 170 million auto, home, and business policyholders.

The Federal Affairs Director will represent NAMIC before Congress and federal agencies on issues impacting p/c insurance companies.  The ideal candidate is one who has the ability to work independently, but is also ready and willing to collaborate as part of a team.  The candidate will have managed complex assignments and projects and is able to quickly become proficient on issues affecting NAMIC and its members.

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Lobby members of Congress and their staff on legislation on behalf of NAMIC and its member companies;
  • Provide analysis on legislative issues of importance and their impact on the property/casualty insurance industry;
  • Develop and coordinate issue strategy and communication;
  • Draft congressional testimony, issue papers, weekly and monthly periodicals, grassroots letters, Legislative and Executive Branch communications, membership issue alerts, updates and presentations;
  • Monitor, attend and report on hearings;
  • Update and educate association membership and decision makers;
  • Work as part of the broader federal legislative team in advancing priority issues;
  • Work closely with NAMIC standing committees and task forces to identify priorities and develop public policy positions;
  • Assist and support member company representatives during customized fly-in program;
  • Represent NAMIC at political fundraisers and events;
  • Build and maintain relations with elected officials and staff, industry partners and coalitions and other related thought leaders; and
  • Work with other public policy groups to identify priorities and development positions that support NAMIC’s objectives.

Qualifications of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience on Capitol Hill or the equivalent in the private sector.
  • Familiarity with House Financial Services Committee jurisdiction and members preferred.
  • Understanding of property/casualty insurance issues a plus.
  • Impeccable verbal and written communication skills a must.
  • Ability to attend after hours events and travel as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Junior Software Engineer

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) has a new opening for a full-time Junior Software Engineer at our headquarters on the northwest side of Indianapolis. This position creates and maintains custom data-driven reports as needed by the organization, and assists in the maintenance of documentation for databases, systems, and processes used by the association.

Main duties of the position include:

  • Designs, builds, and maintains internal website.
  • Work with internal clients to make enhancements to NAMIC.org and other websites.
  • Creates and maintains system documentation including technical specifications, commented source code, and developer notes.
  • Assists with review/edit of end user documentation as needed.
  • Maintains the security and integrity of the organization’s databases in accordance with established security models and standards.
  • Monitors trends in technology and development methodologies for possible application within the organization; makes recommendations to management as appropriate.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Strong working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented programming and relational database design
  • Experience with ASP.NET Core MVC, C#, and SQL
  • Strong problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with co-workers, customers, and management.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer technology, or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of web application development experience.
  • Proficient with development and administration tools: Visual Studio, SQL Management Studio, IIS, version control systems and concepts, and related tools.

Executive Assistant

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) is looking for an executive assistant at our headquarters on the northwest side of Indianapolis to provide administrative assistance to the Senior Vice President of Member Development. This role is a strategic partnership requiring an ability to interact with staff at all levels, while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, efficient and demonstrating a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordination of administrative matters for SVP Member Development:
    • Conserve executive’s time by composing correspondence; monitoring incoming and outgoing mail; screening and relaying telephone calls.
    • Administers the calendar and department schedule.
    • Coordinates all travel arrangements and itineraries.
    • Coordinates and monitors department budget and assists with mid-year projections.
  • Assists SVP Member Development with NAMIC Conference Board, Committee and other governance responsibilities:
    • Coordinates all arrangements for Conference Board of Directors meetings
    • Distributes board and committee material
    • Maintains minutes
    • Maintains Directors Guide and board website content.
  • Performing other duties and projects as assigned.

  • Above average communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Strong writing skills including an excellent grasp of grammar.
  • Proactive self-starter with strong problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications of this job include, but are not limited to:

  • At least 4 years of successful administrative or customer service related experience required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products including prior use of Outlook for scheduling, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background and MVR check.
  • Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required.
  • Must be able to travel for business by car and/or plane occasionally.
