Three Insurance Companies Join NAMIC in First Quarter 2010; 15 Joined in 2009

Indianapolis (April 2, 2010) – The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) welcomed to the nation’s largest, most diverse national insurance trade association 15 new members during 2009 and three more from Jan. 1, 2010, through March 31, 2010. The companies cover a broad range of size and lines of business, including large national companies, single-state/regional companies, and single-line or small-market companies.

The three companies joining during the first quarter 2010 include:

  • Gasconade Farmers Insurance Company, Hermann, Mo.
  • Hospitality Mutual Insurance Company, Westborough, Mass.
  • Lebanon Insurance Company, Cleona, Pa.

The 15 companies joining NAMIC in 2009 include:

  • ACE Group of Insurance Companies, Philadelphia, Pa.
  • Accident Fund Insurance Company, Lansing, Mich.
  • CNA, Chicago, Ill.
  • Friends Cove Mutual Insurance Company, Bedford, Pa.
  • Hartford Steam Boiler Company, Hartford, Conn.
  • Hortica Insurance and Employee Benefits, Edwardsville, Ill.
  • Insurors Indemnity Company, Waco, Texas
  • Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance Company, Lansing, Mich.
  • Nodak Mutual Insurance Company, Fargo, N.D.
  • Partner Reinsurance Company of the U.S., Greenwich, Conn.
  • St. Thomas - Babbtown Mutual Insurance Company, Meta, Mo.
  • Sauers Mutual Insurance Company, Seymour, Ind.
  • Sawgrass Mutual Insurance Company, Davie, Fla.
  • USAA Group, San Antonio, Texas
  • United General Insurance Corporation, Fredericton, N.B., Canada

The significant direct written premium from the new members adds to the NAMIC membership’s overall association-leading market share and its dominance in both top 20 large-company representation and small-company membership. These new members reflect the existing diversity of the association, representing hundreds of farm mutual insurance companies and more than 300 property/casualty multiline insurance company groups.

“These new memberships and our 99 percent retention rate clearly reflect the value of our advocacy model for members,” says Chuck Chamness, NAMIC’s president and CEO. “That effort is marked by our collaboration with state trade associations, strong grassroots political action, and an engaged and active member leadership.”
