General Information

Directors’ Boot Camp and Advanced Courses are designed to provide peers with an opportunity to exchange ideas through group exercises, facilitated group discussions, and networking opportunities.

Our faculty members for Directors’ Boot Camp and Advanced Courses are experts in their specific subject areas and dedicated to the success of this program and the educational experience NAMIC strives to achieve. Faculty members teach the subject matter from a directors’ perspective rather than that of management or the chief executive officer.

The Director’s Boot Camp and Advanced Courses are often offered at the same time and same location but registration is segmented so be sure to register for either Boot Camp or Advanced. Due to the group exercises and discussions, your participation is limited to either Boot Camp or Advanced.

We specifically develop our educational programming with our members in mind. NAMIC is comprised of a diverse membership and there are a variety of events to meet your needs. This seminar is designed for board of directors from property/casualty insurance companies. Attendees do not need to have completed the Directors’ Boot Camp to attend the Advance Courses, but it is very important that board members have a good understanding of governance prior to attending the Advanced Courses.

Directors’ Boot Camp
Directors’ Boot Camp is a two-day interactive seminar specifically focused on boards of directors. The curriculum is designed to be consistent each time the Boot Camp is offered so that future directors will receive the same information as today’s directors. The subject matter and scope of the topics are designed to benefit directors of multi-line companies or complex mono-line companies.

Each of the sessions presented at Directors’ Boot Camp is structured to enhance knowledge, encourage discussion among peers through group exercises, and provide networking opportunities. Topics include:

• Succession Planning
• Reinsurance 101
• Understanding Basics of Financial Statements
• Investment Perspectives for Directors
• The Legislative and Regulatory Landscape
• Enterprise Risk Management (new in 2010)

Advanced Courses
Already have a good understanding of corporate governance? Then NAMIC’s Advanced Courses are for you. The Advanced Courses delve deeper into some of the subjects presented at the Directors’ Boot Camp, but also address more complicated and demanding issues and board practices including topics such as:
