Social Media and Online Communities; A Primer for Marketers
We’ve been inundated with a wave of new buzz words…Web 2.0, Social Media, Communities, Influencers, and Marketing 2.0. Our kids and colleagues are blogging, on Facebook, Linkedin and Twittering…but what does it all mean and more importantly, what does a business need to know about this important new medium?

This session will provide a business explanation of what Social Media is and why it matters. Our goal won’t be to explain to you why people do it, but why businesses need to do it – in fact, why brand differentiation will demand it. As products and services commoditize, our need to differentiate on service and customer intimacy will accelerate and the “truthiness” of our brand promises are exposed in customer conversations every day. We’ll focus on practical first steps, examples and building the business case for why social engagement is critical to effective innovation, voice of the customer, customer service and word of mouth marketing initiatives.
