Management Conference, June 22-25, The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa, Asheville, North Carolina

Agenda

The choices we make as leaders impact the world around us: the company and people we lead, the policyholders we serve, the community in which we operate. Leadership is about choice. As leaders, we will leave a footprint.is it the one you choose to leave?

In our Management Conference program, we will focus on three leadership areas: company, industry, and personal.

General Sessions: Keynote Address "Egonomics" and the Power of Business Thinking - Heritage Ballroom
The concept of "egonomics" was sparked by Jim Collins' landmark work in Good to Great. Collins carefully researched 1,435 companies and discovered only 11 who broke the gravity of "good" performance to reach great. In each case, those good-to-great companies had leaders with two, rare characteristics: 1) fierce personal resolve/ego drive, 2) extreme personal humility. He called that combination "Level 5 Leadership."

Even with equal ambition, talent and resources, companies without "Level 5" characteristics couldn't make the cut. We wanted to answer the question; "Can you learn to become a 'Level 5' leader who then transforms a team, a project, or even a company from good to great?" We now have answers to that question. Steve Smith of MarcumSmith will share with us what they found in their research and training of the three, key principles that separate "good" teams from high-performing ones.

Whether a decision is big or small, strategic or tactical, this approach helps provide a way for groups to create monumental value and results - to get it right.right now.

General Session: Mutual Advantages - Heritage Ballroom
While mutuals are different from stock companies in terms of their ownership status - they are still businesses. Mutuals have to compete successfully in order to survive. The NFU Mutual's view is that mutual status in itself does not offer any automatic right to continued existence - nor any guaranteed basis of future success. We will discuss what our owners or policyholders want, how we deliver products in a manner which is financially sustainable, and how we set meaningful targets to achieve success while meeting our policyholders needs.

The presentation will address these questions from the point of view of NFU Mutual but are applicable to any mutual insurance company. We will get to the heart of the issue of how we earn and retain our mutuality - and, moreover, look at how mutual status can be harnessed to provide real competitive advantage.

The Global Workforce Study is the largest study of its kind. TP surveyed nearly 90,000 employees in 18 countries, focusing on what drives attraction, retention and engagement. At the end of the day, their study paints a picture of a workforce that is energetic, ambitious and committed to working hard and giving its best. But turning people's energy and ambition into engagement - and ultimately into significant performance lift - demands attention, focus and some very different behaviors from senior leaders.
