Breakthrough (Revolutionary) Strategic Planning
When incremental improvement is sufficient, traditional strategic planning methods continue to work. With the convergence of tremendous global change and heightened focus on ethical business practices, more companies are finding they need a new and more robust approach to strategic planning in order to achieve breakthrough results. We will spend time discussing a checklist to help you assess when traditional strategic planning is appropriate or when breakthrough strategic planning is needed. Also, our speaker will share ways to develop new ideas, tools, and tips to take strategic planning to the next level.

  1. General Session: Investment Portfolio Risk Management – The Evolution and Impact of the Sub Prime Mortgage Crisis on Insurance Company Portfolios
The sub prime mortgage crisis in the US has had far reaching effects. Problems stemming from the crisis have impacted not only US investment banks and financial institutions but also State and Local government investment funds, money market funds, UK lending institutions, etc. This crisis has demonstrated that insurance companies will need to take portfolio risk management to another level in order to protect themselves.

In addition, the sub prime mortgage crisis has altered the level of interest rates, risk premiums and volatility in the capital markets that insurance company investment portfolios will be dealing with for years to come. This presentation will attempt to address the short term and long term implications on insurance company investment portfolios stemming from this crisis in the sub prime mortgage market.

Concurrent Sessions

  1. The New Role of Treasury & Cash Management
Treasury and Corporate Cash Management has traditionally focused on stretching for yield and controlling costs – taking as a given that short-duration investments would provide liquidity and the preservation of their principal. Recent market events have, unfortunately, presented a number of challenges to corporate management. Virtually all sectors of the short-term market have lost value, resulting in many investors recording significant losses in 2007. What tools, techniques, and skills must treasury have in order to fulfill their new role as risk managers?

Our presenters speak on the current market environment along with how to access “deep” research, advanced risk technology, transparency, liquidity, and diversification for taxable and tax-advantaged short-term portfolios.
