U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., has been named the 2007 Federal Legislator of the Year by NAMIC. Nelson, who also served as an insurance company CEO as well as Nebraska's top insurance regulator and its governor, was announced as the award winner during NAMIC's Annual Convention. |
NAMIC's Political Action Toolbox is an information resource on the political process that outlines ways member company employees can play an active role in our democratic system.
Whether it's basic information such as registering to vote, or more involved participation such as a state chairman for NAMIC's Political Action Committee, the Toolbox will show you the way.
Hundreds of members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives will meet with their constituents in the insurance industry, as the NAMIC Congressional Contact Program gets underway during 2008. Representatives of NAMIC member companies from New York will be the first delegation on Capitol Hill this year."
NAMIC PAC is a membership sponsored effort organized to financially support candidates running for federal House and Senate seats whose position on insurance regulation and a free-market business environment most closely represent the initiatives of NAMIC and its member companies. NAMIC PAC channels resources into the congressional races that will have the most impact on the insurance industry. The PAC is a voluntary, non-profit political action committee and operates independently of any political party.
NAMIC PAC is a vital part of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies Federal Affairs program - a program that includes professional lobbying, legislative analysis, grassroots contacts, and long-term political relationships. NAMIC PAC strives to educate Congress about our industry and guarantees that no decision is made that will affect our industry, good or bad, until our voice is heard.
NAMIC PAC is governed by a Board of Trustees, chosen from the NAMIC membership, which sets basic policies regarding who will receive the PAC’s support.
Congressional Contact Program (CCP)
As a "minuteman," you will be in the know at the critical moment when a call to action is necessary or when decisions are being made on issues like federal regulation of insurance, legal reform, terrorism insurance, asbestos reform and small property/casualty company taxation.
Every two years, NAMIC presents their coveted Benjamin Franklin Public Policy Award© to lawmakers who have supported a stronger insurance market at least 75 percent of the time. This is demonstrated based on their support of NAMIC's position on certain roll call votes taken, or being a principal player/sponsor on legislation affected the property/casualty insurance industry, during the previous Congress.
