Making Adjustments

Extraordinary Times Mean Extraordinary Efforts

By Janet E. H. Wright, ABC, APR

Images of the aftermath of a catastrophe can only suggest the scope of the reality. Medical and rescue first responders are on the scene in the early hours to save lives. Insurance claims adjusters are on the scene a very few hours later, to begin the long battle for restoration of property and relief from loss. The Coast Guard, Red Cross, Salvation Army and National Guard responders are literally air-lifted into the damage zone. Adjusters, however, have no such magic carpet; they endure many of the same obstacles as the victims to do their jobs and keep the company's promise to its policyholders.
