Change: Nature’s One Constant Force

Change is tough. It upsets everything, tumbles the apple cart, topples monuments. If one characteristic, one talent were to be applied to excellent leaders, I think it would be the ability to deal positively with change.

Change is scary. It leads us along paths we’d rather not take. It brings us face to face with the unknown. It comes at you fast.

Change is invigorating. It forces you to look at things in a new, creative light. It melts cobwebs and clears the sky. It creates opportunity by decimating the status quo.

We at NAMIC are used to change. It’s certainly our way of life, and we embrace it, because generally, it brings great new ways to do the job we love – serving our members.

The mutual insurance industry’s reason for being is as a response to unexpected change. We protect our customers against adverse changes. We are on a constant learning curve to devise better ways to be proactive to change and to respond most effectively when it’s time to make them whole.

As if the Internet and digital publications didn’t provide change enough, we in the NAMIC communications department have taken a long, hard look at the association’s flagship publication, Property/Casualty Insurance magazine and decided that it’s time for change. The September/October issue will be the last edition you receive on a bi-monthly schedule. Starting in January 2006, the magazine will be a quarterly publication with an exciting new look and a wider scope of news and features. We think these changes will make Property/Casualty Insurance an even more valuable communication tool to give our readers important, in depth information in a user-friendly, contemporary format.

From its inception in 1914 as a formal publication of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, the magazine has been not only an important communication vehicle, but part of NAMIC’s brand. Its identity and look has changed more than once: the Mutual Insurance Bulletin to NAMIC Magazine to Property/Casualty Insurance.

Through all of its incarnations from 1914 to 2005, the magazine’s mission has been to impart information to NAMIC members that will help them improve their business and their commitment to their policyholders. Property/Casualty Insurance is an important member service. If everything else about the publication has changed, that mission remains the same.

We look forward to introducing the new Property/Casualty Insurance to NAMIC readers in January 2006.
