Herman Bontrager Receives NAMIC’s Chairman’s Award

PHILADELPHIA (Sept. 29, 2008) – Herman Bontrager, president/CEO of Goodville Mutual Casualty Insurance in New Holland, Pa., was named the 2008 recipient of the Chairman's Award by the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies(NAMIC).

The NAMIC Chairman's Award recognizes leadership, accomplishment, and outstanding service to NAMIC and the insurance industry. Bontrager was recognized during the opening general session of NAMIC’s 113th annual convention Sept. 28-Oct. 1 in Philadelphia, Pa.

John Bykowski, NAMIC's 2007-2008 chairman, presented the award to Bontrager, citing numerous examples of Bontrager's commitment to the industry and the larger community. For 18 years, Bontrager has lead Goodville Mutual while also serving on the board of directors NAMIC Insurance Company, Inc. (NAMICO), a specialty lines carrier that insures members of NAMIC and their agents, and as president of the Pennsylvania Association of Mutual Insurance Companies.

But Bontrager's reach went far outside the insurance industry, Bykowski said. He helped establish a vocational school in Honduras as the director of Latin American programs and an international peace office for the Mennonite central community. He also became a spokesperson and national representative for the Amish community after the shooting at the Amish school in Lancaster, Pa.
