INDIANAPOLIS (Dec. 20, 2007) - Alan Smith has joined the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) as state affairs manager for the mid-Atlantic region. Smith is the former assistant vice president of government affairs for Ohio Casualty Insurance.
Smith will advocate on behalf of NAMIC member companies before state legislatures and departments of insurance in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
"Alan comes to NAMIC with a national reputation and a wealth of insurance industry knowledge, as well as nearly 30 years of government affairs experience," said Neil Alldredge, NAMIC's vice president of state and regulatory affairs.
Smith will assist in NAMIC's continuing efforts to affect change in the states by working in collaboration with state insurance trade associations - a core principle of NAMIC's advocacy philosophy. "Alan has achieved great advocacy successes and has built strong relationships with many legislators and regulators over his career," said Joe Thesing, NAMIC's director of state affairs. "Alan's broad understanding of property/casualty insurance issues will serve our members well in the mid-Atlantic region."
During his time at Ohio Casualty, Smith was a distinguished member of the NAMIC State Affairs Committee. Prior to joining Ohio Casualty in 2002, Smith worked in various capacities for more than 20 years at Nationwide. Smith currently serves as a board member of the American Legislative Exchange Council, a national public policy organization composed of more than 2,000 state legislators and 300 companies and associations.
