WASHINGTON (May 10, 2007) — Jimi Grande has joined the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies’ (NAMIC) federal affairs office as vice president of federal and political affairs, announced Chuck Chamness, NAMIC president and CEO. In this newly created position, Grande assumes a lead role in NAMIC’s federal advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C., as well as helping to steer NAMIC’s political grassroots and communication efforts.
“Jimi comes to NAMIC at a crucial time,” Chamness said. “With proposals being advanced that would hurt small insurers as well as consumers, his wealth of experience in Washington, D.C., will serve NAMIC’s membership well. He has a proven track record working with both sides of the aisle, and we are thrilled to have him on our team.”
Grande comes to NAMIC after serving as a political appointee in the Bush administration in the U.S. Department of Labor, where he was a top liaison on Capitol Hill. He also spent four years with another property/casualty industry trade association.
Grande began his career in Washington, D.C., working for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. With his experience rallying grassroots political support, Grande brings a unique background of insider Washington politics coupled with a good sense of the perils facing the insurance industry from politicians who do not understand the importance of free markets and less onerous regulation.
“I’m excited to be joining the NAMIC federal affairs team at such an interesting time,” Grande said. “I look forward to working with our staff, NAMIC members, and Congressional lawmakers to get our important messages out.”
