INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 6, 2007)—The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) announced it has named long-time State Affairs Manager Joe Thesing to the new position of director-state affairs. In this new capacity, Thesing will assume the day-to-day management of NAMIC’s regional state affairs managers and oversee the association’s 50-state legislative program in coordination with NAMIC’s Vice President of State and Regulatory Affairs, Neil Alldredge.
“Joe has achieved great advocacy successes and has built strong relationships with many member companies since joining NAMIC as its first State Affairs Manager nearly five years ago,” Alldredge said. “That experience will serve him and NAMIC well in his new role.”
Thesing will lead NAMIC’s continuing efforts to affect change in the states by working in collaboration with state insurance trade associations — a core principle of NAMIC’s advocacy philosophy. He will also engage in specific, high priority advocacy efforts in individual states or on key issues at for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) and other national policy organizations.
“The importance and volume of NAMIC’s advocacy efforts at the state level continues to increase and expand,” added Alldredge. “Joe’s strong track record in the states and thorough understanding of NAMIC’s strategic objectives and advocacy philosophy make him uniquely qualified to manage our state advocacy program.”
“Joe Thesing has done an outstanding job for NAMIC member companies,” said Chuck Chamness, NAMIC’s president and CEO. “The announcement of his promotion to director-state affairs is in recognition of his service and leadership.”
