Chairman & CEO of Greater New York Mutual Insurance Company Exemplifies Spirit of Getting Directly Involved
TAMPA, Fla. (September 18, 2006)—Warren Heck, chairman and CEO of Greater New York Mutual Insurance Company, New York, N.Y., was the 2006 recipient of the NAMIC’s Chairman’s Award.
The NAMIC Chairman's Award was created to recognize leadership, accomplishment, and outstanding service to NAMIC and the insurance industry. Heck was recognized during the opening general session of NAMIC’s 111th Annual Convention held in Tampa, Fla.
The NAMIC Chairman’s Award is designed to recognize leadership, accomplishment and outstanding service to the association and the insurance industry. Robert A. Wadsworth, CPCU, CIC, NAMIC’s 2005-2006 chairman, presented the award to Warren, citing numerous examples of his untiring advocacy on behalf of the industry.
“Our 2006 Chairman’s Award winner exemplifies the spirit of the capable and experienced insurance executive getting directly involved in NAMIC policy and advocacy objectives and making a positive difference for the larger membership of the association,” said Wadsworth.
Heck has served as a member of NAMIC’s Regulatory Structure Focus Group and offered the NAMIC board of directors’ guidance on regulatory reform initiatives. One of the association’s foremost experts on TRIA, he testified on behalf of NAMIC on “The Future of Terrorism Insurance,” before the House foremost experts on TRIA, he testified on behalf of NAMIC on “The Future of Terrorism Insurance,” before the House Financial Services Committee of the U.S. Congress. His strong testimony and personal observations forcefully made NAMIC’s point that a federal backstop was needed for acts of terrorism. He is currently involved in NAMIC’s activity to find a permanent solution for acts of terrorism.
“Warren has also emerged as an influential voice in the national debate over natural disaster risk management and insurance. He was invited by the New York State Insurance Commissioner to speak AT the National Catastrophe Insurance Summit in November, and currently services on NAMIC’s task force on natural disasters,” said Wadsworth.
Heck has long supported a number of charitable and educational organizations, including the Police Athletic League, the Booker T. Washington Learning Center and the Insurance Education Institute.
