INDIANAPOLIS (Dec. 21, 2005)—The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) has inaugurated an upgraded legislative and regulatory tracking service for its member companies. LARIS (for Legislative and Regulatory Information Service) is powered by State Net, the nation’s leading source of state government legislative and regulatory reporting, will now be available to all member companies through NAMIC Online.
According to Roger Schmelzer, NAMIC’s senior vice president-state and regulatory affairs, “To offer the most comprehensive service available, NAMIC has partnered with the country’s premier provider of automated legislative and regulatory information, to create a unique database of issues important to NAMIC member companies. LARIS will allow every employee at a NAMIC member company to search the database and receive automatic updates with no additional charge.”
NAMIC members will enjoy customized information delivery options, according to Schmelzer. He added that information is classified by topic and checked for accuracy at each stage of the process. “Issue editors review and categorize each bill and regulation by issue before it is entered into the database,” he said.
Providing access to accurate and timely and personalized compliance information is critical, Schmelzer said, citing the key benefits of LARIS for NAMIC member companies.
“LARIS is the ideal supplement to a company compliance function,” said Schmelzer “It will also allow insurers to be informed on a very current basis about what is happening in a legislature or insurance department that might affect their business,” Schmelzer said.
