PHOENIX, ARIZ. (Oct. 5, 2005) – The 2005 Service Award was presented to four individuals making significant contributions to NAMIC during the association’s annual business meeting.
James A. Blum, CPCU, chairman and president of Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Co., Ft. Wayne, Ind., was NAMIC’s chairman in 2001, admirably leading the association through the turbulent times following the 9/11 attack and the resulting cancellation of the 2001 convention and annual meeting. He is a member of the NAMIC Merit Society and most recently chaired the NAMIC Board Governance Task Force. He is active in community activities, serving as a board member of Taylor University, the Fort Wayne Rescue Mission foundation and the Northern Indiana Chapter of CPCU.
Jo Ann Kuschel, PFMM, secretary/treasurer/manager of Boeuf & Berger Mutual Insurance Co., New Haven, Mo., served on the NAMIC board of directors from 2001-2004. She is a member of the NAMIC Merit Society and currently serves a sa trustee of the NAMIC PAC. She has been a presenter and moderator at the CEO Roundtables. She is also active in the Missouri Association of Mutual Insurance Cos. (MAMIC), serving three terms on their board. In 1988, she received the MAMIC Distinguished Service Award.
Sandra G. Parrillo, CPCU, president/CEO of The Providence Mutual Fire Insurance Co., Warwick, R.I., serves on NAMIC’s Property Casualty Conference board. She led the Mutual Insurance Task Force on Corporate Governance at its inception in 2002, and was instrumental in the development of the NAMIC white paper on Corporate Governance. She later led a renewed task force effort to a consensus position that has resulted in substantial progress on the original NAIC proposal to overlay Sarbanes-Oxley onto state insurance solvency regulation. In addition to her work with NAMIC, Parrillo serves on the boards of the Mutual Fire Association of New England, the Medical Malpractice Joint Underwriting Association of Rhode Island, and the Rhode Island Insurers’ Insolvency Fund.
Jerry Zenke, PFMM, general manager of Mound Prairie Mutual Insurance Co., Houston, Minn., serves on the board of NAMIC’s Farm Mutual Conference. He received the NAMIC Merit Award in 1998. He is very active in the NAMIC Congressional Contact Program, having just completed his 13th year of participation. He is past chairman of the Minnesota Association of Farm Mutual Insurance Cos., and is a member of its executive committee. He also serves on the nominating committee for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Co.
