INDIANAPOLIS (March 22, 2005)—The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) announced today that Neil Alldredge has been named Senior Director of State Advocacy.
In his new capacity, Alldredge will be responsible for development and execution of all advocacy strategies before state legislatures, NCOIL, NCSL, ALEC, NGA, CSG and the NAIC. He will supervise NAMIC’s state affairs managers who cover all 50 states.
In making the appointment, NAMIC Senior Vice President of State and Regulatory Affairs Roger H. Schmelzer cited “the increasing number of complicated, boundary-defying issues” that impact the property/casualty industry. “It is imperative for NAMIC member companies that we assure tactical consistency and assertive engagement through effective advocacy management.”
As examples, Schmelzer mentioned the emergence of Sarbanes-Oxley at NCOIL after more than a year of consideration at the NAIC; and credit-based insurance scoring which started at the NAIC, moved to NCOIL and now is being addressed by the Federal Trade Commission.
“For going on six years at NAMIC, Neil has repeatedly shown an ability to master the substance and dynamics of issues at a level which has brought positive results to NAMIC member companies and the industry as a whole,” Schmelzer said. “I am enthusiastic about the prospect of extending Neil’s expertise to a broader audience.”
