NAMIC Announces New Federal Affairs Senior Lobbyist

WASHINGTON (Dec. 21, 2004)-The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC), a leading national property/casualty insurance trade association, has added a veteran property/casualty insurance lobbyist to its Washington, D.C., office.

Justin Roth, formerly a senior lobbyist with the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America (the Big "I") has been named senior director of government affairs for NAMIC, effective Jan. 10, 2005.

Roth brings with him a substantial property/casualty insurance background and many of the issues that he will handle at NAMIC will be very familiar to him.

"Justin's experience with the IIABA is a natural fit for NAMIC as his knowledge of our issues will enable him to be an effective advocate immediately for NAMIC on Capitol Hill," said David A. Winston, NAMIC federal affairs senior vice president. "I am delighted that Justin is joining us in our DC office. NAMIC and IIABA work closely on numerous insurance issues and Justin's knowledge of the issues and Capitol Hill will be a tremendous asset to NAMIC's federal lobbying team as we gear up for the new Congress."

Roth leaves after almost four years of service with the Big "I" government affairs team. Prior to that, Roth was legislative assistant to former Florida Congressman Joe Scarborough, and Florida State Senator Anna Cowin. He has extensive contact with members of Congress, their staffs, committee counsels, administration officials, and private industry representatives. Roth has worked on numerous campaigns including the 2004 South Dakota Senate Race, the 2002 Kentucky 3rd district race, and the 1994 Florida Gubernatorial campaign.

"In addition to Justin's lobbying abilities, he brings with him an appreciation of the importance of grassroots and a strong PAC to an effective federal legislative program. With substantial lobbying talent in place, grassroots strength and a growing PAC, NAMIC is well positioned to deliver its legislative agenda in the new Congress," said Winston. "We have a great team that will enable NAMIC to be even more effective on Capitol Hill on behalf of NAMIC member companies."

In addition to Roth, the NAMIC's Washington lobbying team includes Winston, and Marliss A. Browder, federal affairs director.
