The 118th Annual Convention of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies kicked off today in Seattle, Wash., bringing together more than 1,200 NAMIC member company representatives and another 700 in affiliated businesses.
NAMIC Chairman Jerry Zenke officially opened the event after the traditional procession of state flags representing NAMIC members from across the country. Speaking to attendees, Zenke reflected on his tenure as chairman during the past 12 months.
“Over the past year, I have spoken about the inclusiveness of NAMIC, the strength of the association, which I believe lies in its diversity, the importance of being unified in our cause, and the importance of remembering where we came from as an industry while planning for the future,” he said.
The four-day event features more than 70 educational and informative sessions on issues facing the property/casualty insurance industry and a 40,000-square-foot exhibit show with more than 100 exhibitors. Featured speakers at the convention include Stan Slap, a leading consultant who speaks to the world’s largest companies about inspiring employee commitment; Robert Spector, a leader in customer service and inventor of the “Nordstrom Way”; and political columnist Mark Shields and political consultant and strategist Mike Murphy.
At the conclusion of the convention on Wednesday, NAMIC will induct its chairman for the next year, Motorists Insurance Group Chairman John Bishop, and the 2013-2014 board of directors.
