New Mexico: Insurance Consumers Saved from Hidden Taxation – Emergency Medical Services Fee Surtax Legislation Dies on Floor

HB 99, Emergency Medical Services, was defeated Feb. 11 on a 33-31 on a House Floor Vote. The bill as amended was voted out of the House Appropriations Committee on a 9-5 vote, then laid over several times for a floor vote. (Posted: 2/16/2010)


New Mexico: EMS Fee Surtax Legislation Up for Floor Vote Today

HB 99, Emergency Medical Services, as amended, is scheduled for a House floor vote today. The bill passed, as amended, out of the House Committee on Health and Government Affairs Jan. 28 on a 7-0 voted. It was then heard Feb. 4 in the House Appropriations Committee and was assigned to a subcommittee within that committee for a detailed evaluation of the bill. The bill was voted out of the Appropriations Committee as amended Feb. 6 on a 9-5 vote, and it was then scheduled for a House floor vote yesterday, but was laid-over until today. (Posted: 2/9/2010)

New Mexico: NAMIC Asks Insurance Superintendent Not to Impose Unnecessary, Costly SOX-like Requirements on Small Insurers

NAMIC recently submitted written comments and provided testimony at a Public Regulation Commission’s Insurance Division public hearing on the adoption of a model audit rule for insurance companies. In his comments, Christian J. Rataj, NAMIC’s Western state affairs manager, urged the New Mexico PRC-ID to adopt the entire NAIC MAR. (Posted: 12/15/2009)

West Virginia Leads Nation Again in Frequency of Deer-Vehicle Collisions; Michigan, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Arkansas Round Out Top Five

For the second year in a row the vehicles most likely to collide with a deer are in West Virginia. Using its deer claims data from the last half of 2007 and the first half of 2008 and motor vehicle registration counts by state from the Federal Highway Administration, State Farm estimates the chances of a West Virginia vehicle colliding with a deer during the next 12 months at 1 in 45.
