Nebraska: NAMIC, Nebraska Farm Mutuals, Insurance Information Service Work to Improve Audited Financial Reports Regulation

NAMIC and its state trade association partners, the State Association of Mutual Insurance Companies of Nebraska and the Nebraska Insurance Information Service, recently testified and provided input at a hearing of the Nebraska Insurance Department on proposed amendments to the state’s annual audited financial reports regulation. West Virginia Leads Nation Again in Frequency of Deer-Vehicle Collisions; Michigan, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Arkansas Round Out Top Five

For the second year in a row the vehicles most likely to collide with a deer are in West Virginia. Using its deer claims data from the last half of 2007 and the first half of 2008 and motor vehicle registration counts by state from the Federal Highway Administration, State Farm estimates the chances of a West Virginia vehicle colliding with a deer during the next 12 months at 1 in 45. Missouri: U.S. Court of Appeals Rules McCarran-Ferguson Act Prohibits Challenge to State’s Rate Setting Rules

Report: 33 Million Licensed Americans May be Unfit for Roads

Results from the 2008 GMAC Insurance National Drivers Test released May 22 found that 16.4 percent of drivers on the road - roughly 33 million licensed Americans - would not pass a written driver’s test if taken today. (Posted: 5/28/2008)

2008 State-by-state Rankings Released of the Best and Worst Tort Systems in America

The Pacific Research Institute released March 11 its report comparing the legal climates of all 50 states. According to the “U.S. Tort Liability Index: 2008 Report,” Florida ranked the worst in terms of tort costs and litigation risks, while North Dakota ranked the best. (Posted: 3/12/2008)
