Southeast Region 2010 Legislative Preview

Several Southeast region state legislators have already been busy filing bills related to topics of interest on NAMIC’s state legislative agenda. Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and South Carolina all convene in early January, and pre-filing is underway in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. (Posted: 12/15/2009)


North Carolina: NAMIC Recognizes Rand as ‘Legislator of the Year’

NAMIC will formally present its “Legislator of the Year” award tomorrow to North Carolina Sen. Tony Rand in his legislative office in Raleigh. NAMIC member company employees and other insurance industry representatives will join Liz Reynolds, Southeast state affairs manager, for the presentation. (Posted: 12/15/2009)


North Carolina: Beach Plan Considers Industry Accounting Proposal

After consultation with its staff and outside accountant, the North Carolina Beach Plan has accepted an industry proposal to segregate the surplus on its balance sheet going forward that was shown as members’ equity prior to Aug. 26, 2009, when HB 1305 became law. (Posted: 11/17/2009)


North Carolina: NAMIC Presents Award to Legislators

NAMIC will formally present its “Legislator of the Year” award tomorrow to Rep. Hugh Holliman. Holliman and Sen. Tony Rand are co-recipients of the annual award for their efforts to pass legislation reforming the state’s “Beach Plan,” the coastal insurer of last resort. Rand is unable to attend because of scheduling conflicts. NAMIC will work with his office to schedule a presentation for him at a later time. (Posted: 11/3/2009)

Two North Carolina state legislators have been named "State Legislators of the Year" by the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) for their efforts to pass legislation reforming the state's "Beach Plan," the coastal insurer of last resort.
