Kentucky Members in Washington for 2009 CCP

Continuing the 2009 Congressional Contact Program through the fall, a group of NAMIC member companies from Kentucky traveled to Washington, D.C. last week. Kentucky: Notice of Agreement to Settle Claim in UIM Case Must be Clear

In a 4-3 decision, the Kentucky Supreme Court has held that notice that an insured is considering settlement with a tortfeasor is inadequate as notice under Kentucky law of an agreement to settle. (Posted: 8/11/2009)

Kentucky: Commissioner Issues Guidance on Electric Vehicles

Kentucky Insurance Commissioner Sharon Clark issued guidance Oct. 29 on Gov. Steven Beshear’s executive order authorizing the use of low-speed electric vehicles on Kentucky’s highways. (Posted: 12/2/2008)

West Virginia Leads Nation Again in Frequency of Deer-Vehicle Collisions; Michigan, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Arkansas Round Out Top Five

For the second year in a row the vehicles most likely to collide with a deer are in West Virginia. Using its deer claims data from the last half of 2007 and the first half of 2008 and motor vehicle registration counts by state from the Federal Highway Administration, State Farm estimates the chances of a West Virginia vehicle colliding with a deer during the next 12 months at 1 in 45. New Study Suggests Putting Off Driver Licensure to Save Lives

Most U.S. states allow driving at age 16, 16-and-a-half, or somewhere in between. A new Insurance Institute for Highway Safety report focuses on the costs in terms of lives of allowing licensure sooner rather than later. (Posted: 9/9/2008)


Kentucky: Franklin County Files Suit Against Insurance Companies

In an effort to collect taxes Franklin County believes are back owed, 14 lawsuits against more than 65 insurance companies were filed between July 12 and July 14 in U.S. District Court in Frankfort. (Posted: 7/29/2008)

Veteran State Employee Named Insurance Commissioner

Sharon P. Clark, a 17-year veteran of Kentucky state government, has been appointed commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Insurance, Robert D. Vance, secretary of the Public Protection Cabinet, announced June 30. (Posted: 6/30/2008)
