California Court Decision Reaffirms Distinctive Right of Mutual Insurance Companies, NAMIC Says

INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 1, 2008) – A recent opinion from the California Court of Appeals is a significant victory for mutual insurance company boards in their efforts to successfully and flexibly oversee the management of their enterprises for the benefit of policyholders in an increasingly uncertain market, according to the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC). Bruce D. Thomas Begins Term as 2008 - 2009 NAMIC Chairman

PHILADELPHIA (Oct. 1, 2008) – Bruce D. Thomas was elected 2008-2009 chairman of the board of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC) here today, during NAMIC’s Annual Convention. New Study Suggests Putting Off Driver Licensure to Save Lives

Indiana Supreme Court Addresses Statute of Limitations for Clean-up Contribution

The Indiana Supreme Court handed down its opinion on June 19 in Richard Pflanz, et al. v. Merrill Foster, et al., holding that for a property owner’s claim for contribution toward environmental cleanup costs the statute of limitation does not begin to run until the owner is ordered to clean up the property, regardless of whether an owner earlier knew or should have known about the need for cleanup. Indiana Supreme Court Addresses Premises Liability Issues

In an opinion handed down June 4, the Indiana Supreme Court addressed two issues of first impression. In Kopczynski v Barger, the court held: (1) that under some circumstances a minor’s invitation to enter the premises may bind the landowner for purposes of premises liability, and (2) that a trampoline may constitute an attractive nuisance. Report: 33 Million Licensed Americans May be Unfit for Roads
