Report: 33 Million Licensed Americans May be Unfit for Roads

Results from the 2008 GMAC Insurance National Drivers Test released May 22 found that 16.4 percent of drivers on the road - roughly 33 million licensed Americans - would not pass a written driver’s test if taken today. (Posted: 5/28/2008)


Georgia: Governor Gives Nod to Rate Modernization

Saying, “I believe the market should be allowed to regulate automobile insurance rates,” Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue signed SB 276 into law last week. (Posted: 5/20/2008)

Georgia: 6,000 Homes Damaged from Storms, Insured Losses Estimated at $50 Million and Growing

Georgia: Amended Bill on Commercial Vehicles in GEICS Database Passes House

As reported in last week’s Advocacy Update, insurance industry lobbyists on the ground in Georgia successfully lobbied for an amendment to HB 1235, which, in its original form, eliminated the fleet exception to the GEICS database for reporting motor vehicle liability coverage to the state. 2008 State-by-state Rankings Released of the Best and Worst Tort Systems in America

The Pacific Research Institute released March 11 its report comparing the legal climates of all 50 states. According to the “U.S. Tort Liability Index: 2008 Report,” Florida ranked the worst in terms of tort costs and litigation risks, while North Dakota ranked the best. (Posted: 3/12/2008)
