Market Conduct Proposals Approved in Surprise Move
When the draft agenda for the NAIC Joint Executive (EX) Committee/Plenary was published on Sept. 10, nothing in it suggested that the committee would consider action on anything related to the highly controversial Market Conduct Annual Statement proposal, which was approved by the Market Regulation & Consumer Affairs (D) Committee during a conference call in April. Task Force Cancels Vote on Climate Risk Disclosure Proposal

Preference is for 1-in-100-year Standard for Catastrophe RBC
Members of the NAIC’s Catastrophe Risk Subgroup decided Sept. 21 during the NAIC fall meeting to use a 1-in-100-year standard for a factor that will reflect insurers’ catastrophe risk. (Posted: 9/30/2008)
New York Insurance Superintendent Eric Dinallo told a huge audience during the fall NAIC meeting that there was “no consideration at any time of compromising policyholder interests” in the deal to maintain viability of AIG. (Posted: 9/30/2008)

Market Regulation Committee Discusses Credit Scoring Paper
Two days prior to the NAIC fall national meeting in National Harbor, Md., the Market Regulation & Consumer Affairs (D) Committee released its Aug. 26 draft "Review of the Use of Credit-Based Insurance Scoring by Insurers." Committee Chair John Morrison of Montana requested the paper during the summer national meeting in June. The paper was prepared by NAIC staff. (Posted: 9/30/2008)
