Alabama: NAMIC Comments on Hurricane Deductible ‘Buy-Back’ Bill

Liz Reynolds, NAMIC’s Southeast state affairs manager, contacted Alabama House Insurance Committee members last week to express members’ concerns with HB 477, which would require property/casualty insurance companies to offer a “buy-back” provision in policies with named storm percentage deductibles. The bill was scheduled for discussion by the committee on Feb. 17 and has now been slated for a public hearing Feb. 25. (Posted: 2/23/2010)


Florida: Commission Releases Windstorm Mitigation Discounts Report

Mississippi: Commissioner Presents Mitigation Study to Lawmakers

Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney presented a draft report of the Comprehensive Hurricane Wind Damage Mitigation Program Cost Benefit Study on Jan. 6 to interested members of the House and Senate insurance committees and coastal delegation. North Carolina: ‘Beach Plan’ Reform Passes at Warp Speed in the End

The North Carolina House on Thursday concurred with Senate amendments to HB 1305, legislation to reform the “Beach Plan.” The action capped expedited activity on the bill, which was given a favorable report by the Senate Commerce committee, allowed to bypass a second committee, and received second and third readings by the full Senate - all on Wednesday.
