California: NAMIC Opposes Consumer-Funded Elections for CA Insurance Commissioner
NAMIC has opposed a California bill requiring insurers, and ultimately their consumers, to pay for the political campaigns of candidates seeking the office of state insurance commissioner. (Posted: 4/10/2006)
On a Saturday, March 4, in Orlando when no fewer than three NAIC committees dealt with international insurance solvency regulation, NAIC President Al Iuppa told two of those committees that one of the most intransigent and immediate questions—alien reinsurance collateral—would be dealt with in 2006. Colorado: Legislature Considers Bill to Create Consumer Insurance Board
Reacting to the Colorado Legislature consideration of a bill that would create a Consumer Insurance Board that would have input in the rate setting process as well as the authority to review the insurance commissioner annually, Christian John Rataj, state affairs manager for NAMIC, called the bill a "wolf in sheep's clothing." Most Seat/Head Restraints in SUVs & Pickups Perform Poorly in Rear-End Crashes
Only six of the seat/head restraint combinations in 44 current model SUVs are rated good for protection against whiplash injuries in rearend crashes, while none of the seat/head restraint designs in 15 pickup truck models earns a good rating. (Posted: 1/9/2006)
Louisiana Commissioner of Insurance Unveils Hurricane Mediation Program
Residents whose Hurricane Katrina or Hurricane Rita insurance claims are in dispute will soon be offered a possible solution at no cost to them. Commissioner of Insurance Robert Wooley has established a mediation program through which a neutral third party meets with the policyholder and the insurance company in an attempt to resolve the dispute and quickly settle the claim.
