NAMIC Opposes Legislative Attempt in Wyoming to Impose Covert Taxation on Auto Insurance Consumers, Via Mandated Insurance Coverage

"NAMIC submitted written testimony in opposition to HB 118, Insurance Coverage for Vehicle Accident Cleanup Costs because the proposed legislation is really just a liability-based crash tax and a form of hidden double-taxation on auto insurance consumers.

"Citizens of the state already pay state taxes to cover general welfare public safety services, like auto accident cleanups, so HB 118 is unnecessary and likely to adversely impact the affordability of compulsory automobile liability insurance for consumers. Currently, 13 states - Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Utah - have passed laws or resolutions prohibiting or restricting municipalities from charging accident response or cleanup fees."
