Insurance Professionals Responding to Disasters Confront Human Loss and Heartbreak

It is well known throughout the mental-health profession that public safety workers - firefighters, police officers, paramedics - see, taste, hear, feel, and smell violence. They see the devastation, taste the smoke, hear the cries of pain and grief, feel the hands of those injured and dead, and smell the stench of death. To help them cope with the trauma, they are required to go through debriefing and are offered further counseling.
