Bruce D. Thomas is the president and CEO of the Heartland Mutual Insurance Company in Algona, Iowa, where he began working as a claim adjuster in 1980.

Thomas is busy in the insurance and NAMIC communities. He is the past president of Northwest Iowa Mutual Managers Association and a former member of the Mutual Insurance Association of Iowa board of directors. He also has a PFMM certification. His NAMIC involvements include being a past Merit Society chairman, a Farm Conference Committee board of directors member, and a Merit Society Award recipient. Thomas is currently the NAMIC chairman-elect and a member of the Merit Society Committee board of directors.

A highly educated man, Thomas has two undergraduate degrees - one in business and one in economics and education, from Monmouth College and the University of Iowa, respectively. He also has an MBA from Southwest Minnesota State University.

Married to his wife, Sue, for 32 years, they have one son, Kraig, 17. Thomas enjoys his family life, church golf, and snow skiing.
