NAMIC's Federal Key Contact Program

Involvement in the political process is a special responsibility every American holds. If you would like to have a significant impact on legislation affecting our industry and have or would enjoy developing a relationship with a member of Congress, please consider becoming a NAMIC Key Contact. NAMIC developed the Federal Key Contact Program to establish and maximize the personal relationships NAMIC members have with legislators in Congress for the benefit of the property/casualty insurance industry to influence them, in a moment's notice, when action is needed on important legislation.

The Federal Key Contact Program is a vitally important component of our member advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill. Together with NAMIC's other political involvement efforts, it helps reinforce for the members of Congress that the views expressed by NAMIC's staff reflect those of the legislators' constituents in their districts. Also, it heightens the lawmaker's accountability to his/her constituents while providing another vehicle to influence public policy decisions. Finally, it localizes the political impact of federal legislation in the legislator's mind.

Key Contacts are grasstops advocates who are able to communicate NAMIC's positions to members of Congress.

Benjamin Franklin Public Policy Award

Every two years, NAMIC presents their coveted Benjamin Franklin Public Policy Award© to lawmakers who have supported a stronger insurance market at least 75 percent of the time. This is demonstrated based on their support of NAMIC's position on certain roll call votes taken, or being a principal player/sponsor on legislation affected the property/casualty insurance industry, during the previous Congress.
